Formation World Tour.

Last Monday, May 16th I got to attend the Formation World Tour featuring Beyonce and DJ Khaled at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.
The show opened with a set from DJ Khaled. He played his hits “All I Do Is Win”, “Take It To The Head” and more. The crowd went crazy. He was the perfect person to open up for Beyonce. Right when we thought DJ Khaled was done he brought out Bay Area rap legend Too $hort. Then after, another Bay Area rap legend, E-40 came out. It was a giant party of over 50,000 people in the stadium. Then Bay Area Newcomer Nef The Pharaoh came out and performed his song “Big Tymin'”It was one of the best opening acts I have seen in a while.

About 40 minutes after DJ Khaled and his guests left, at around sunset the main act finally hit the stage. She opened up with her controversial hit, “Formation”. Her stage was massive. It included a 300 hundred foot cube which was used as her screen and also rotated. Along with a stage in the middle of the field with a moving walkway(similar to the ones you see in airports). It was huge. We were seated all the way up, but we were still able to get a good view of both stages. She performed over 30 songs spanning from her albums with Destiny’s Child to songs from her newest album Lemonade. My favorite part was a tribute she did to the late and great Prince. She first sang The Beautiful Ones, one of my favorite Prince songs. She did a great job. Then after the giant cube screen was lit purple (Prince’s signature color) and Purple Rain began to play. Everyone got out their phones and lighters and began to wave them in the air.

I was really impressed by this tour. The setlist was great, the opening act was perfect, it was all really good. This was my 2nd outdoor stadium show, but my first time seeing Beyonce live. The Formation tour was one of the best concerts I have ever been to. Beyonce sets the bar high. She is a true performer. Real vocals, real choreography, real staging and production. Although I did enjoy the show a lot, It is going to be hard watch any other performer now after seeing Beyonce.
